Genting Highlands - Borned Spirits

Gentings Highlands, one of the most popular tourist locations in Malaysia. Located in the state of Pahang and resting at 2,000m above sea level, it offers a cool respite from Malaysia's bustling capital city. Many people head for Genting Highlands specifically for its nightlife at the renowed world-class Casino de Genting.

With all the excitement and happenings going around, one definitely will not know about the evil sinister that lurks within the place. The following story was told by a friend whose uncle used to work in Genting as a building maintenance worker.

Several years ago, before the opening of the casino and hotels in Genting Highlands was opened to the public, ten pregnant Vietnamese ladies were being brought to Genting Highlands to stay in a particular hotel. Witness confirmed that the pregnant ladies are roughly about 7-8 months pregnant and their bulging tummy are clearly visible. Each of them checked into different rooms and alternately switched into different rooms after some time. All housekeeping and food were being taken care discretely only by one Vietnamese man who had came with them and strictly no one else was allowed to witness or interfere with their activities.

A month later, the ten 'pregnant' ladies checked out of their respective rooms. Astonishingly, when they checked out, all the Vietnamese ladies look very slim and beautiful and none of them were carrying any babies. If was as if they were never pregnant before. In all the rooms that the ladies had stayed before, there was a special wind chime hanging at the window.

A few months later after the opening of the casino, a young man committed suicide in one of the rooms where a wind chime was placed. He had lost all his savings and company's money at the casino. Subsequently, after the suicide, many hotel staff and patrons had heard the sound of a child crying and seen a figure of a young man angrily running after a young child.

The workers were then told that the wind chimes are actually 'toys' for the ghost child that the Vietnames ladies had given birth to. These ghost child (toyol, gwei zhai) are child spirits that roam the hotels to 'invite' people staying there to visit the casino and gamble. It was rumoured that the man was one of the victims that was being persuaded by the child spirit to gamble his life savings away. His spirit cannot rest in peace and wants to take revenge on the ghost child.

The wind chimes were subsequently removed by the management after that. However, do becareful when you happen to check into a Genting hotel, who knows there may be some wind chimes that had been left out and not yet remove.....
